Marc-Andre Fleury is always happy to go back to Pittsburgh, where he started a remarkable career that will land him in the Hockey Hall of Fame.“I spent 14 years there,” the Wild goaltender said this week. “Made great friends there — great people, met a lot of fans —and it always means a lot to go back and get some memories of my time there. I like to enjoy it.”The streaking Wild, 7-2-0 under new head coach John Hynes, start back-to-backs Monday against a Penguins team that has lost five of its last seven games before ending a brief road trip Tuesday in Boston.Fleury will start one of those games in goal, Filip Gustavsson the other. After Saturday’s 2-1 shootout victory over Vancouver at Xcel Energy Center, Hynes said he wasn’t sure which goalie would play in which game.“I know that they’re going to split,” he said. “I don’t want to say the games yet.”Hynes said he and goaltending coach Frederic Chabot have mapped out the goaltending schedule and that, in his experience as a head coa...

Stock UpOLB Nik Bonitto In absentia, the second-year pass-rusher’s importance showed through clearly in the Motor City. Denver struggled to consistently heat up Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Nobody’s generated more consistent pressure for the Broncos than Bonitto, who missed the game due to a left knee injury sustained against the Los Angeles Chargers. None of the remaining offenses on the schedule pose the kind of every-down threat Goff and Detroit did, but even still, Denver should be hoping to get Bonitto back sooner rather than later. Head coach Sean Payton indicated Bonitto is not looking at an injured reserve stint, meaning he’s hopeful to play again in the regular season.Blood pressure medicine For suspended Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, in particular. Jackson had every right to be furious as he watched a fourth straight game and sixth overall this season on television and saw Detroit rookie nickel Brian Branch lead into a fierce hit on tight end Adam Trautman with his helme...

GLENDALE, Ariz. – One team is in first place with a 10-3 record, the other in last at 3-10.Finding momentum amid a potential mismatch shouldn’t be hard for the NFC-leading 49ers, if they want to retain their position for the No. 1 playoff seed and wild-card bye.The 49ers, by virtue of a win today over the host Cardinals, also can clinch the NFC West for a second straight year.Beyond those stakes, however, is a reminder of the 49ers’ rock-bottom stature before their rise to prominence. They opened 0-9 in 2017 under a first-year, first-time head coach in Kyle Shanahan. These Cardinals began 1-8 under first-year, first-time head coach in Jonathan Gannon.Shanahan closed his initial season by going 5-0, in Jimmy Garoppolo’s first starts at quarterback. Gannon’s debut campaign also has found a spark with a quarterback change: They’re 2-2 in Kyler Murray’s return from anterior cruciate ligament repair. Here are the 49ers’ three keys to avoiding an upset:1. Wasteful Arsenal finally breaks down Brighton to earn 2-0 win in Premier League

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:07:25 GMT

LONDON (AP) — Arsenal finally wore down Brighton’s resistance despite a multitude of wasted chances to secure a 2-0 win on Sunday that sent the Gunners temporarily at least to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday. Kai Havertz only made the game safe in the 87th by finishing off a quick counterattack to double Arsenal’s lead with a rare clinical finish on an afternoon when the hosts were guilty of widespread profligacy. Havertz’s goal came from Arsenal’s 25th shot of the game — compared to just two for Brighton — and eighth on target although all but one of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s previous saves had been fairly routine.Arsenal had 15 shots to zero for Brighton in the first half alone but the breakthrough didn’t come until the 53rd. Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke attempted to head clear a corner from Saka but the ball only found Gabriel Jesus, who was on hand to head it back into an empty net. That goal forced Brighton to become more a...
